Shire Hall will fly St George's flag
The Conservative administration at Shire Hall has given its strong support to the flying of the cross of St George to mark St George's day this week. The flag will fly from Shire Hall's flagpole throughout the day.
Cllr Barry Dare, Leader of the council, commented:
I'm proud to be English and proud of our English heritage. It's something we shouldn't be afraid to celebrate just as much the other backgrounds that help to make up Britain. Personally I would be in favour of the Government looking into making the day a bank holiday, to bring England into line with Scotland and Wales.
I will also be making sure that the St George's flag flies at my home on Thursday, and I'd urge others to do the same.
